SPINACH PROTEIN SMOOTHIE: Wildly vibrant green and full of flavor, this breakfast shake is teenage boy-approved. When breakfast seems like too much trouble or your teen wants to leave the house without, this smoothie comes to the rescue.
You know when teenage boys start sharing a recipe, it has to be not only good, but downright epic.
So when my son’s good friend told him he had the “best protein shake…EVER,” it was only a matter of time until the friend texted a snapshot of the ingredient list to my son.
Boom, done, it had to be made.
“What do you want for breakfast,” I asked, innocently, this morning, thinking he would have his usual scrambled eggs, or maybe a bowl of cereal. Teenage boys live on cereal.
“Cameron sent me a smoothie recipe, so I want that,” came the voice from under the covers.
“Do I have the ingredients?” I asked, imagining some fancy chia seeds or whatnot on the list.
“I would bet you have every single thing,” he said.
And I did!
Let’s make a Spinach Protein Smoothie, shall we?
SPINACH PROTEIN SMOOTHIE: Vibrant green and full of flavor, this breakfast shake is teenage boy-approved.
Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder {We like Natures Plus Unsweetened Spiru-Tein Simply Natural Original Vanilla which is gluten-free, non-GMO, and made from rice, pea and soy proteins}
- 1 (5- to 6-ounce) container vanilla yogurt
- Dollop peanut butter or almond butter
- 2-3 handfuls of fresh spinach leaves
- A squirt of agave or honey, if desired
- Handful of ice cubes
- Water as needed
Directions
- Add all ingredients to blender, and begin to whirl, adding small amounts of water as needed for blending. Blend on high speed until well combined, adding as much water as you need to make it pourable.
- Serves 1-2, depending on appetites.

Please forgive my cruddy photo of this smoothie. The sun wasn’t even up when I took this cell phone picture. But after I tasted the drink, I knew you had to have the recipe, so I beg your photo forgiveness.
Here’s the ingredient list, as texted by friend Cameron. 😉

Looks so perfect! Definitely a must try!
What a great way to start the day.
Des,
My teenaged son asked for another one today. He even drove to the store last night to make sure we had spinach for it. That is dedication!
This is a great breakfast!
If it’s teenage boy approved you think it’s toddler approved 😉
Lauren,
Probably!
This sounds great! We have everything here already as well, I’ll have to see if my smoothie-loving boys want one tomorrow.
Stephanie,
My teenager just inhaled this one!
We do a ton of smoothies. The protein we use comes from the cheese I make or the leftover whey we freeze in ice cube trays. We can add vanilla when we make it.
Candy,
Whey protein….smart!
So excited for smoothies now that Spring has arrived! This looks healthy & delicious!
