Lucky me, my husband and kids took me out to a birthday brunch at the new-ish Malibu Pier Restaurant & Bar, at the land end of the Malibu Pier.
Yes, turning 39 {!!! 🙂 } was never so fun as it was that day…
…sitting outside in balmy weather, noshing on brunchables, listening to the waves break and the sea gulls squawk.
Here’s what we ate:
Calamari Fries ($15) and Clam Chowder ($12)
Smoked Salmon Benedict ($18)
California farm eggs, hollandaise
Pacific Moonfish BLT ($18)
Opah fish, bacon, tomato, romaine, Old Bay aioli
I recommend it, and will be back to sample more of chef Jason Fullilove’s inventive creations.
While you’re on the pier…
…stroll…
…and take in the sights after your meal.
…German tourists stand up paddle boarding…
…locals buying ice cream treats…
…shopping for surfboards at Malibu Surfboards…
…shopping for chotchkes at Malibu Beach Supply Co. …
…coming home with an octupus magnet which has taken up residence on my fridge.
Priceless day!

What a wonderful outing. With this cold chill here in NY, I would love nothing more than to hop on the first plane to Malibu! It looks like such a beautiful, fun place. xo, Catherine
Catherine,
I would send you some of our warm weather if I could. If only I could. 🙂
I want to go to Malibu one day! How gorgeous! And that food looks great!
Jaren,
I hope you make it some day. It is seriously gorgeous!
Great shots, but really love the illustrated map.
Don,
Me too! I adore those kinds of things.
How beautiful! My son lives in Los Angeles so when I come to visit him this summer, we’ll have to give this place a try. Such a great way to spend your birthday!
Joanie,
Oh yes, you should! You won’t be disappointed.
That BLT! That calamari! I want it all. Now the real issue is when I can get to Malibu ASAP?!
Meg,
Exactly right. This is a paradise.
That food looks delicious and what a fun place to celebrate your birthday!
Thanks Ashlyn! Every birthday is a gift.
Whether 21st or 39th or ??? WHO CARES!!! Just glad you had a brilliant time with your family! Thanks for sharing…you’re so special.
DMcD,
Thank you, how sweet of you to say that!
I love Malibu Pier!!! Many memories here! It looks like you had a fabulous time, so jealous!
Jen,
One of the things I particularly like about the Malibu Pier is it is very laid back. Not a lot of commercial things going on.
Wow what lovely photos and its so beautiful there in Malibu!
Michelle,
Truly, it is gorgeous.
Dorothy,
What a terrific way to celebrate your birthday! I’m smitten by your octopus–I can see why he’s a part of your kitchen now!
Kirsten,
He spoke to me. He jumped in my hand. 🙂
Well, happy “21st” birthday… a grownup at last!!! Looks like a lovely day with your family… so happy to hear/see you enjoyed it. 🙂
Ha ha Suebaby,
You have that just about right (21st!).
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DOROTHY!!!!! And what gorgeous weather too! Good food, family, sun, view……what a birthday !
Marci,
You oughta get out to the pier if you haven’t yet. Two very fine restaurants there…can’t go wrong.
That pier sign is really cool. I would definitely have ordered the Moonfish BLT and I am so into the aioli with Old Bay.
Jameson,
I agree with you…that sign is iconic! My husband said his Moonfish BLT was epic.
Why oh why did I look at this post – when it’s about 32 degrees here with snowflakes falling? Anyway, if I ever get to Malibu, I’ll have to remember this place – and call you up for more recommendations:)
Laura,
If you ever come to my area, please contact me and we’ll do the town!
Looks like a gorgeous place to dine!
Ashley,
It is just breathtaking to sit out on the pier on a nice day.
Happy Birthday! I’m headed home to SoCal in May, I might have to take the drive from Orange County and give this place a try.
Michelle,
You must!
I do like Malibu a lot but I hate the traffic! There are so many restaurants over there I really want to eat at!!!
GiGi,
You’re right. Traffic on PCH can be a pain.
What a lovely day! The food looks divine and I love the magnet!
Sue,
That octopus just HAD to come home with me.
Betsy/Desserts,
In a heartbeat!
