Do we give dad a day off from the grill on Father’s Day, or do we celebrate him by letting him grill his favorite steaks, just the way he likes them, with no interference?

You decide, but I also suggest you honor his grill skill by taking over the spitfire for a couple of minutes to grill something you probably haven’t grilled before — bok choy.

Grilled Bok Choy on Shockingly DeliciousBok choy is not only among the most nutrient-dense vegetables on the planet, it is also among the most delicious when simply grilled. You need add nothing else, unless you want to gild this lily.

Grilled Bok Choy on Shockingly DeliciousAnd grilled bok choy goes extremely well with steak or chicken. Just sayin’. (Plate above is grilled bok choy, steak, mashed potatoes and ripe cherimoya. That was some good eating!)

Happy Father’s Day!

Recipe: Grilled Bok Choy

Summary: Grilling tames bok choy’s crunch and concentrates its natural sweetness, for a perfect grilled vegetable.

Ingredients

  • 1 head full-size bok choy

Instructions

  1. Heat your barbecue grill to medium heat. Grill bok choy halves about 5 minutes each side (a little more if they still seem too crunchy to you).
  2. Remove and serve!
  3. Serves 4.

Quick notes

  • You may drizzle with oil if you like before you grill, but it isn’t necessary.
  • You may also drizzle with soy sauce or teriyaki sauce or some other seasoning sauce after grilling, but it isn’t necessary. The pure, naturally sweet flavor of the bok choy will shine through if you allow it to be naked!

I’m not a bok choy fan maybe that would change if I try it grilled!

Cindy,
I think it might! It’s altogether different when you grill it.

I LOVE Bok Choy! Sadly, no one else in my house does. I’ve never grilled it but it looks like a great way to add it to a barbecue!

Tara,
Cherimoya is an amazing fruit! You must try it. I wrote about it here: https://www.shockinglydelicious.com/introducing-cherimoya-fruit-natures-ice-cream/.
And made some ice cream out of it here: https://www.shockinglydelicious.com/cherimoya-ice-cream/.
Mostly, we let it get ripe and just eat it out of hand. I am fond of putting it on the dinner plate because it is so special.

That bok choy looks wonderful! Is there any cooking method that adds more flavor than grilling? I don’t think so. I’ve got to try this, Dorothy! We love, love, love greens at our house.
