Food Bloggers L.A. Celebrate Apples and Pears!

When the Food Bloggers Los Angeles [1] group gets together for its monthly meeting, you can bet there’s going to be some good eatin.’

Although it is still broiling hot in the extended summer of Southern California, we bravely turned on our ovens, fired up the stoves, and got into a Fall kind of mood to feature our favorite renditions using apples and pears.

Shall we tour our potluck?

Dried Apple and Pear Chips from Eating Rules [3]Andrew Wilder of Eating Rules [4] grabbed his mom’s old food dehydrator and treated us to Dried Apple & Pear Chips [5], which by design are an example of the kind of unprocessed food he is challenging us all to eat during the month of October.

Apple Lips from Cook and Be Merry [6]Lynne Hemer of Cook and Be Merry [7] cracked us all up with her Apple Lips. I want THOSE at my Halloween party!

Rustic Chunky Applesauce from ShockinglyDelicious [8]I (Shockingly Delicious [9]) brought Rustic Chunky Applesauce [10], fragrant with cinnamon and my secret ingredient, which ain’t so secret because you can find it in the recipe!

Whiskey Apple Butter from Girl Plus Fire [11]Paulette Fontanez of Girl Plus Fire [12] treated us to Whiskey Apple Butter [13]. You could get a little buzz on if you weren’t careful and I wasn’t. None for the kids!

Apple and Pecan Coffee Cake with Browned Butter Glaze [14]We had two lovely apple cakes, the first an Apple and Pecan Coffee Cake with Browned Butter Glaze [15] from Neha Mathur of Much More Than a Homemaker [16]

Apple Cake with Brown Sugar Buttercream [17]…and the second an Apple Cake with Brown Sugar Buttercream from Mary Weinberg of Sifting Focus [18].

Pear Chutney from In Erika's Kitchen [19]Erika Kerekes of In Erika’s Kitchen [20] treated us to an appetizer of Pear Chutney [21] dolloped on a cracker with either sausage or brie tucked under…

Chicken and Apple Pate with Chopped Pistachios [22]…while Priscilla Willis of She’s Cookin’ [23]  brought Chicken and Apple Pate with Chopped Pistachios [24] on top.

Honey Crisp Apple Cornmeal Muffins [25]Judy Weintraub of Bumbleberry Breeze [26] brought wonderfully gritty (in that good cornmeal way) Honey Crisp Apple Cornmeal Muffins. I’d like one for breakfast tomorrow, please.

Pork Tenderloin from Two Broads Abroad [27]On the savory side, Judy Lyness (no, not everyone in FBLA is named Judy!), of Two Broads Abroad [28] brought a to-die-for Pork Tenderloin Wrapped in Bacon with Apple and Pear Sherry Sauce [29]

Apple Pear Tart from Two Broads Abroad [30]…and an Apple Pear Tart she makes for Thanksgiving.

Bahn Mi (sandwich) with Braised Pork Belly with Garlic Confit, Tart Green Apple and Crunchy Red Cabbage [31]Savory as well, Kim Burnell of Rustic Garden Bistro [32] gave us a Bahn Mi (sandwich) with Braised Pork Belly with Garlic Confit, Tart Green Apple and Crunchy Red Cabbage [33].  Say THAT with your mouth full!

Triple Slaw with Apples, Pears and Pecans [34]Cathy Arkle, who blogs at She Paused for Thought [35], had a Triple Slaw with Apples, Pears and Pecans [36] that went well with every single thing on the plate.

Apple Phylo Strudel from Bibberche [37]Lana Watkins, the strudel-maker extraordinaire from Bibberche [38], gifted us with an Apple Phylo Strudel dusted with powdered sugar. Mmmmmm.

Pear Tartlets from More Please Recipes [39]Finally, Tina Ferris of More Please Recipes [40] brought Pear Tartlets [41] that had us raving. She confessed she made an error while making the recipe, but we sagely advised her to ALWAYS make this mistake. That’s how good they were!

What else do we do at meetings besides eat?

Take aerial photos of our food that sometimes include our cute magenta flats or bare toes!
