Chocolate is a sure thing for Valentine’s Day, but there are a few other  choices that will score you just as many – if not more – points with your sweeties.

I have 15 suggestions – one ordered online (just stop procrastinating and go do it right now), one surprising sweet from the produce section at the grocery store, and a few options that you can easily whip up in your own kitchen for the homemade touch.

Nothing says lovin’ like something sweet given from your heart. Super Accurate Fortune Cookies Valentine's Day Box

  1. Valentine's Day Fortune CookieValentine’s Day Fortune Cookies: They’re funny, red and pink (red apple and black raspberry flavors), with a perfect mix of witty, snarky and just plain LOL fortunes inside. Sold online by the Los Angeles-based company Super Accurate Fortune Cookies, these are a creative, fun, amusing gift likely to be remembered next February. $9.99 for a box of 10, but creator Ray Richmond will offer 25% off to Shockingly Delicious readers if they enter the code Shocked (cap S) when ordering.Sumo Citrus on Shockingly Delicious.com
  2. Sumo Citrus: A so-ugly-it’s-cute Japanese tangerine-orange hybrid now grown in California’s Central Valley, Sumo is the sweetest citrus you’re likely to have (maybe ever?), and the big flavor will simply wow your gift recipient. Show them how to grab the crazy little top knot, easily peel the fruit, and pop those seedless, extremely juicy segments into your mouth. I gave one to my sweeties last night and my husband simply said, “Wow. WOW. WOW!” Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! They’re being picked this week and trucked to stores, so look for them. Ask your produce manager to get you some pronto from Suntreat Packing and Shipping Co., if you can’t find them.
  3. Orange Chocolate MeltawaysOrange Chocolate Meltaways: Speaking of orange…orange-scented balls of chocolate ganache goodness that do as their name indicates—melt delightfully in your mouth.Perfect Fudge
  4. Perfect Fudge: Rich, decadent, creamy fudge, easy to make at home and wonderful for Valentine’s Day or any day you need chocolate. No need for a candy thermometer!Peanut Butter Fudge
  5. Peanut Butter Fudge: Speaking of chocolate, not everyone is wild about it. This Peanut Butter Fudge is creamy, rich, cuts like a dream and will make you a star. Without the need for a candy thermometer.Sweet Swirl Cookies of Love from Prudent Baby
  6. Pink Swirl Refrigerator Cookies: These have to be the cutest cookie on the planet, no? Sweet Swirl Cookies of Love, from Prudent Baby, look like they’ll do the job for classroom, office, family or sweetheart.

Want more? Here are some sweets from my food blogger friends. These gals can really cook, so you’ll be safe in their hands. I have plans to try one per day until Feb. 14.

Wow, quite a selection of treats. I love the candy recipes that don’t need a candy thermometer. I have dozens of kitchen gadgets, but that’s one I don’t have. Thanks for including me in the round up.

Great round-up! That fudge is mighty tempting…but truly, I’d be incredibly happy to have one of those Sumos. They are hands-down my favorite citrus fruit. (Hint, hint, Valentine…)

Jeanne,
You and I can just sit around snacking on Sumos while everyone else eats their chocolates! Fine with me.
